Plan Types, Plainly
WHAT'S OUT THERE
There's no single best plan. The right fit depends on your income, health, doctors, and budget.
Marketplace plans
Sold through HealthCare.gov or your state's marketplace. They cover a standard set of essential health benefits and can't turn you down or charge more for pre-existing conditions.
They're the only plans where income-based subsidies can lower your monthly premium. You enroll during open enrollment or after a qualifying life event.
Private plans
Health plans sold outside the marketplace. Some healthy people can qualify for medically underwritten private plans with lower deductibles. These plans ask health questions, and coverage can differ from marketplace plans.
Marketplace subsidies don't apply, so I compare them against marketplace plans for you, including what's covered and what's excluded.
Fixed-benefit plans
These pay a set dollar amount for covered events, like a doctor visit or a day in the hospital, no matter what the bill is.
They are not major medical coverage and are not a substitute for it. Many people use them alongside other coverage.
On the call, we look at the options available where you live and compare them side by side.

Common Questions
OPEN ENROLLMENT FAQ
When is open enrollment for 2027?
On HealthCare.gov, open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1, 2026 through January 15, 2027. Pick a plan by December 15, 2026 for coverage that starts January 1. Plans picked December 16 through January 15 usually start February 1. Some states that run their own marketplace set different deadlines, so I confirm yours on the call.
Can I change plans after Jan 15?
Only if you have a qualifying life event, like losing other health coverage, moving, getting married, or having a baby. That opens a Special Enrollment Period. Without one, you generally wait until the next open enrollment.
Do I qualify for a subsidy?
It depends on your household income and household size. We check it together on the call.
Does it cost anything to work with a broker?
No. The plan review call is free and there's no obligation to buy anything. Licensed agents are typically paid by the insurance company, not by you.
If I do nothing, will my plan just renew?
If you have Marketplace coverage, you may be automatically re-enrolled, but your plan, price, or savings can change for the new year. Reviewing your options before December 15 is the best way to know what you'll pay in 2027.
What states do you work in?
